Budget 2016 -17. The Key Points

• budget with a total outlay of Rs 4.39 trillion for the fiscal year 2016-17
• growth target at 5.7pc in the next FY 2016-17.
• Budget deficit with a Rs 1.2 trillion, or 3.8pc of the GDP (4.3% in previous year) i.e. gap in income and expenditure, so the
• fiscal deficit at 3.8pc of the GDP FY 2016-17,
• tax-to-GDP ratio target to over 10pc for FY 2016-17 (7% previous year
• Rs700bn allocated for agricultural loans FY 2016-17
• The defence budget has been increased 10pc for FY16-17 to Rs860.2bn from Rs781bn last fiscal year.


• total of Rs57bn has been set aside for public sector salaries and pensions in the budget,
• 10pc increase in pension for federal employees. FY 2016-17

• Energy: tariff for tubewells will be brought down to Rs5.35 per unit, with the govt bearing Rs27bn.
