For the west, Isis is Islam by Aijaz Zaka Syed

Hosting a first of its kind counterterrorism conference at the White House, Obama hit all the right buttons, emphasising that violent extremism is not peculiar to any religion. He also warned against casting the fight against extremism in terms of a civilisational conflict: “The notion that the west is at war with Islam is an ugly lie. And all of us, regardless of our faith, have a responsibility to reject it.”

Star: it's birth and cycle

Image
What does nuclear fission have to do with the birth of stars? Fission has nothing to do with it. Fusion does, however. Fission is the process by which large nuclei (like Uranium) split apart releasing energy. Fusion is the joining of nuclei to make larger nuclei, with the release of energy. A ball of contracting interstellar gas becomes a star like the Sun when fusion reactions start in its center. Then, we say "a star is born."

BLACK HOLES : the Mass eating machines in universe

Image
Why do some stars end up as black holes? The answer involves the gravity and the internal pressure within the star. These two things oppose each other -- the gravitational force of the star acting on a chunk of matter at the star's surface will want to cause that matter to fall inward, but the internal pressure of the star, acting outward at the surface, will want to cause the matter to fly outward. When these two are balanced (i.e., equal in strength) the star will maintain its size: neither collapse not expand. Such is the case for the Sun at the moment, and even, for that matter, for the Earth.

QUASARS: gigantic Black hole parent

Image
What is your definition of a quasar?  This is best answered with history. When radio telescopes were first turned on the heavens, point sources of radio waves were discovered (along with spread-out regions of emission along our Milky Way). Astronomers using ordinary visible-light telescopes turned toward these radio points and looked to see what was there. In some cases a supernova remnant was found, in others, a large star-birth region, in others a distant galaxy. But in some places where point sources of radio waves were found, no visible source other than a stellar-looking object was found (it looked like a point of like --- like a star does).

Interesting facts about the planets

Image
While the universe is a big place to study, we shouldn't forget our own backyard. With eight planets and a wealth of smaller worlds to look at, there's more than enough to learn for a few lifetimes! So what are some of the most surprising things about the  planets ? We've highlighted a few things below. 1. Mercury is hot, but not too hot for ice The closest planet to the Sun does indeed have ice on its surface. That sounds surprising at first glance, but the ice is found in permanently shadowed craters—those that never receive any sunlight. It is thought that perhaps comets delivered this ice to Mercury in the first place. In fact, NASA's MESSENGER spacecraft not only found ice at the north pole, but it also found organics, which are the building blocks for life. Mercury is way too hot and airless for life as we know it, but it shows how these elements are distributed across the Solar System.

Pak-Afghan economic ties by IShrat hussain

SEVERAL significant developments have taken place in Afghanistan in the past few months that require fresh thinking and a review of the relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan. First, most of the Nato forces have withdrawn from Afghanistan while the presence of US forces has been considerably reduced and largely limited to support and training of the Afghan National Army. Second, the general elections in Afghanistan were successfully conducted with a large turnout and the majority of the population participated in this peaceful democratic transition. Third, the newly elected President Ashraf Ghani enjoys excellent credentials and is committed to the economic development of his country. He has therefore formed a national unity government with his opponent Abdullah Abdullah as chief executive.

Supernova : the artist of Universe

Image
i do bot own any text it is taken from encyclopedia bratanica and posted now by rana muddasar as for education purpose. Supernova ,  plural  supernovae  or  supernovas ,  any of a class of violently exploding  stars whose  luminosity  after eruption suddenly increases many millions of times its normal level. The term  supernova  is derived from  nova  (Latin: “new”), the name for another type of exploding  star . Supernovae resemble novae in several respects. Both are characterized by a tremendous, rapid brightening lasting for a few weeks, followed by a slow dimming. Spectroscopically, they show blue-shifted emission lines, which imply that hot gases are blown outward. But a supernova explosion, unlike a  nova  outburst, is a cataclysmic event for a star,

The Big Bang theory : it's expansion not explosion

Image
Big Bang Theory - The Premise The Big Bang theory is an effort to explain what happened at the very beginning of our universe. Discoveries in astronomy and physics have shown beyond a reasonable doubt that our universe did in fact have a beginning. Prior to that moment there was nothing; during and after that moment there was something: our universe. The big bang theory is an effort to explain what happened during and after that moment.

Galaxy Origins Know what you don't know about GALAXIES

Links to external sites will be displayed in another window. All galaxies began forming at about the same time approximately 13 billion years ago. The origin of galaxies and how they changed over billions of years is an active field of research in astronomy today. Models for galaxy formation have been of two basic types: "top-down" and "bottom-up". The "top-down" model on the origin of the galaxies says that they formed from huge gas clouds larger than the resulting galaxy. The clouds began collapsing because their internal gravity was strong enough to overcome the pressure in the cloud. If the gas cloud was slowly rotating, then the collapsing gas cloud formed most of its stars before the cloud could flatten into a disk.

Religious unity by anwar abbas

Image
THE main objective of militants such as the Taliban is to expand. They were initially a small group of people with an extremist interpretation of their own, but as time passed, they formed into a larger movement with many smaller groups equally virulent merging into one. The interpretation offaith expounded by these extremists promotes exclusivity. But Islam is not exclusive; it is part of the whole, of a continuing process of faith in the Almighty. Let us look at the unity of religious belief through the prism of Islam, the teachings of the Quran and the message of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) to truly understand the dichotomy.

Celebrating iron ore discovery

Image
THE discovery of a large iron ore deposit in Chiniot is indeed good news but it is useful to keep in mind that the hard part begins now. By itself, the discovery is actually not new. The deposits were identified as early as 1989 by the Geological Survey of Pakistan, and verified in 1999 by the Department of Mines and Minerals of the Punjab government in a study using samples from 14 bore holes around the Chiniot area. Each bore hole yielded high-quality iron ore deposits at depths ranging from 120 to 160 metres below the surface, which make these the deepest deposits in Pakistan where all other iron ore extraction is done on the surface.

Learning and experience by Faisal babri

IN a recent undergraduate level class I taught, quite a few students did not know what rationing was. I asked them what they thought load-shedding was, or the closure of CNG pumps two to three days a week, or even the limit on each car getting Rs1,000 worth of petrol only during the oil supply crisis. They were flummoxed. So was L Most of the students were, of course, aware of load-shedding and the petrol crisis, but they had not connected the word `rationing` to load-shedding.

Why Jordan Is Islamic State's Next Target

Image
By  Noah Feldman JORDAN`S King Abdullah II was in battle gear last week, quoting Clint Eastwood and bombing Islamic State targets in retaliation for the horrific burning alive of a Jordanian pilot. Is this a sign that Jordan is entering the war against the insurgent group in earnest, or is it a temporary show for a stunned Jordanian public? The complicated reality is that Jordan and IS are enmeshed in an extended, dynamic, repeat-play game in which the rules are just now being set. In fact, Abdullah was signalling to IS that if it engages in further public challenges to the Hashemite Kingdom, he`s prepared to devote real resources to the war against the militants.

Ben Ali was only the second ruler the Tunisians had known in 53 years of independence from France. The word Tunisia is derived from Tunis, known to the Ancient Greeks as Tynes, the capital city of modern-day Tunisia. The name Tunis can be attributed to different origins. It may be associated with the Phoenician goddess Tanith, or to the Berber rootens [which means "to lie down"]. The Tunisian flag features the crescent moon and five- pointed star, traditional symbols of Islam. It originated in about 1835 AD when the country was still officially under Turkish rule and was adopted after independence from France in 1956.
